Richard Brinley
I am a self-taught artist, originally from Nottingham, and have lived in Gatehouse of Fleet for six years. I find the landscape of the Fleet Valley endlessly inspiring and spend as much time as possible outdoors sketching and taking photographs which I then work into finished pieces in the studio.
My chosen medium is oil, usually painted onto sheets of glass enabling a smooth finish and heightened brightness within the colours.
All aspects of the Fleet Valley provide subjects to be painted - sea, beach, sky, hills, the river, and the town itself - and are revisited as my work evolves.
I am very excited about being a member of GoFA. Being an artist is usually a solitary existence; no colleagues to bounce ideas off or to tell you when you are going wrong, and I hope that being part of this group will open up new channels of creativity within us, pushing us into exciting new areas of experimentation.
