ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My painting is fundamentally visionary. At the core of my work is the process of connecting with the heart. My painting in series or sequences expresses and sings out the inner vision of the deeper levels the inner vision of the heart. This vision then spreads upwards, moves outwards to connect with the natural world, where the other main creative relationship occurs. Through my love for the natural world the external landscape nurtures and inspires the inner vision. My landscape work occurs at the edges, at the point of contact with the outer world, on the journey back in a breathing between the outer and inner, the inner and outer.
Brief Biography
EVE M. WATSON was born in Dublin. Her creative output began through poetry and moved into spinning and weaving. She worked as a weaver, exhibiting regularly with The Irish Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers and in Craft exhibitions in The R.D.S. and Powerscourt Townhouse in Dublin.
In 1983 she was diagnosed with a life threatening illness. The crisis of this experience led her into a process of healing with emphasis on diet, meditation, visualisation, psychotherapy and eventually, through working therapeutically with art, to painting. In 1984 Eve moved to Edinburgh.
Since 1987 she has been leading groups and workshops as well as seeing individual clients, using painting as a form of meditation, healing, therapy and self-expression, both in Edinburgh until 1993, and also in Ireland, where she lived on the Dingle Peninsula until 2004. She has given presentations using slides of her paintings to illustrate the healing journey, to many institutions in the U.K. and Ireland. Moving with her husband Julian to Gatehouse of Fleet in 2006, she is finishing work on a book using prose, poetry and painting to illustrate the process of coming to life in the face of death.
Eve began exhibiting in 1986 in two group shows in Edinburgh at The City Arts Centre and 369 Gallery as well as exhibiting paintings to accompany Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time in St. Bernard’s Church, Edinburgh 1991.
In Ireland she had two solo exhibitions: ‘Stillness in Movement’, 101 Talbot, Dublin, 1999; ‘Dingle Moods’, Siamsa Tire Theatre and Arts Centre, Tralee, Co. Kerry 2001 and ‘Pathways Home’, a joint exhibition with Julian, Kerlin Gallery, Belfast 2002. She has exhibited in group shows in galleries all around Ireland, including The Private Collector’s Gallery, Co. Cork and Kenny’s Gallery in Galway.
Since moving to Gatehouse of Fleet. Eve has exhibited in Group Shows in The Bakehouse Gala Exhibition, The Original Gatehouse Gallery and The Whitehouse Gallery in Kirkudbright.
